How We Can Help
Children may be referred for assistance by their guidance counselor, school nurse, social worker, and/or physician.
- We serve children from birth to 18 years of age.
- We partner with the Kershaw County Medical Clinic and physicians throughout Kershaw County.
- We have relationships with our county schools to assist in meeting needs for children within our school district.
Our History
The Children's Home of Kershaw County, also known as the Mayfield Children's home, was opened in 1942 when it moved to the corner of Fair and Laurens Street in Camden, South Carolina. The home served as a foster home for homeless, neglected, and needy children. It was supported by the United Way, DSS, and local contributors. By 1982 most children were served by DSS. At that time the home was closed and sold.
The proceeds from the sale of the property were invested and the funds generated annually are donated by the Board of Associated Charities to serve the needs of the children and youth of Kershaw County.
